Wild Minds Youth Gardening Program
The Wild Minds Youth Gardening Project engages youth through the summer in helping to create an ecologically rich forest food garden area as part of the existing Strathcona and Cottonwood Community Gardens, located near Britannia Community Centre. The forest food garden will provide edge habitat to support increased bio-diversity and habitat for animal critters.
Re-wilding of urban spaces can support food production, but will also create opportunities for youth to connect to the land and animals that we depend on. Youth are gaining a greater understanding of a food garden and an awareness of the importance of ecological integration, the nurturing of animal habitat, which in turn can support healthier food production along with many other ecosystem values.
