PUBLIC ART AT BRITANNIA

At Britannia, we value supporting local artists and creating inviting and colourful spaces that reflect the various communities that make up the Grandview Woodland and Strathcona neighbourhoods. Enjoy the incredible public art around our site.

Entering the Britannia site, you will notice a great many art projects accomplished throughout the last 50 years. From the large murals to the Indigenous carvings, we take great pride in serving the East Vancouver community of Grandview Woodlands through artist in residency and mural initiatives. We continue our work to decolonize and increase representation of the Host Nations. Recently, we proudly raised the Kyachn Welcome pole carved by Darren Yelton of the Squamish Nation. We have also had murals painted in the pool lobby and pool deck by Coast Salish artist Charlene Johnny from the Quw’utsun’ Nation, and several more carving projects at Britannia have resulted in legacies such as the house poles on the Rink and the benches in the Plaza.

Currently we are hosting paddle carving workshops on Sunday and Tuesday in the carving pavilion from July to September 2025 with funding from the Community Artists Shifting Culture City of Vancouver grant.
