Britannia Childcare

Britannia Childcare Preschool

3-5 years | 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver (beside Eastside Family Place)

Grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework, Britannia Childcare Preschool is a place where children are recognized as capable, curious learners who co-create meaning in relation with one another and the more-than-human world.

Children make sense of their experiences through inquiry-based engagements that spark rich conversations alongside educators, families, and community. This collaborative dialogue supports critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deepening awareness of the word around them.

Our preschool curriculum is thoughtfully designed to respond to emerging pedagogies in relation to current times, local community, and cultural context. Together with our atelierista and pedagogist, children and educators nurture meaningful relationships, curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. Through these relationships, educators engage in reflective practice, thoughtfully considering children’s ideas, dialogues, and experiences to shape a curriculum that is caring, inclusive, and rooted in children’s lived experiences.

Britannia Preschool is a participating site in the Early Childhood Pedagogy Network and is supported by a pedagogist who strengthens collaborative and reflective practice while enriching the program through artistic and relational learning.

Facilities:  1600 sq ft of indoor-outdoor spaces, including a community garden, a make-believe playroom, a sleep room, etc.

Britannia Out-of-School Care

5-12 years | 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver

Our out of school program sees children as capable, curious, and full of potential. We support their growth across all areas—social, emotional, physical, and creative—by creating a welcoming space where they can relax, play, and connect after the school day. Grounded in the BC Early Learning Framework, our approach values each child’s voice, cultural identity, and relationships with others, their community, and the natural world. We believe that learning continues beyond the classroom through meaningful play, exploration, and relationships.

Play is central to how children learn, express themselves, and make sense of their world. Our curriculum is flexible and responsive, shaped by the interests, ideas, and experiences children bring with them each day. Educators listen, observe, and reflect alongside the children to co-create engaging activities that promote creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. We support each child in developing confidence, friendships, and a strong sense of belonging.

Facilities:
We have two separate rooms:

  • Child Care room (located by Grandview Park)
  • Pre-teen/Spirit Bear room (located north of the Library).

We are a $10/day program
Fee:  $200/month

Snacks included.

Britannia ORCA Summer Camp

5-12 years | 1661 Napier Street, Vancouver

ORCA stands for Outdoor Recreation & Creative Arts, capturing the heart of Britannia’s full-time summer program for children ages 5-12. For more than 30 years, Britannia Out-of-School Care had created summer experiences where children can play, explore, create, connect, and discover together.

ORCA brings together the best of summer: active outdoor adventures, creative expression, hands-on experiences, and meaningful relationships. Each week, children will explore neighborhood parks, local trails, beaches, pools, museums, community spaces, and other exciting destinations throughout the city. There will be plenty of opportunities to hike, bike, run, jump, swim, climb, play, and simply enjoy being outdoors.

Back at the centre, children will have opportunities to explore creative arts, culinary experiences, science and discovery, drama, music, movement, and imaginative play. Special guests and community partners will also join us throughout the summer, introducing children to new experiences, skills, ideas and perspectives.

Each experience is thoughtfully planned to invite curiosity, creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and deeper exploration. Children are encouraged to make choices, ask questions, test ideas, take on challenges, and share their own perspectives. Whether they are designing an art project, experimenting with a science concept, preparing food, creating a performance, or developing a game with friends, their experiences provide meaningful opportunities to build skills, knowledge, confidence, and relationships. The result is a summer program that feels fun and engaging while remaining intentional, purposeful, and grounded in curriculum.

Most of all, OECA is about having fun together! It’s a place where children can be themselves try something new, take on challenges build confidence, develop meaningful friendships, and create memories that last well beyond the summer.

Come make a splash with ORCA!
